Applicable for
This material is primarily used for printing closures for beverages and household products on polyethylene (PP) and polypropylene (PE). PP has similar properties to PE. Since PE has a surface tension of 31 mN/m and PP has a surface tension of 29 mN/m, pretreatment of the material is essential.
Pretreatment for web transfer printing is typically performed using a gas flame method, sometimes with atmospheric plasma. The effectiveness of the pretreatment is the most important factor affecting ink adhesion. As long as the burner is effective, gas flame (and atmospheric plasma) can achieve good results on both PP and PE. The conditions required for good adhesion are: a surface tension of 42-48 mN/m for PP and 54-62 mN/m for PE.
Because these closures are packaged as bulk goods in cartons and then transported to the filling line, where they are cleaned and then rinsed (along with the bottles), good adhesion, as well as water and scratch resistance, are essential.
TampaRotaSpeed TPHF is a universal rotary pad printing ink, suitable to print onto PP and PE closures, and packaging.
